He grew up in an ordinary family. At the age of 20, Carroll decided to connect his life with military service, so in 1859, he enlisted as a private at Light Battery E of the 3rd Artillery Regiment at Fort Ridgely. In a few years of service, he was promoted to corporal. After that, he participated in battles of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Blackburn\u2019s Fort<\/li><li>Bull Run<\/li><li>Port Royal<\/li><li>Secessionville<\/li><li>Fort Wagner<\/li><li>Fort Gregg<\/li><li>Fort Sumter.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Carroll was awarded the Medal for Merit for his combat service and heroic deeds in the battles of Forts Wagner, Gregg and Sumter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carroll was wounded in one of the battles and temporarily stopped the service to undergo treatment and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.new-york-yes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2023\/04\/image-8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.new-york-yes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2023\/04\/image-8.png 600w, https:\/\/cdn.new-york-yes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2023\/04\/image-8-300x175.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Post-rehabilitation military career<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the injury, Carroll didn\u2019t give up his military career after rehabilitation. In 1864, he returned to the ranks of Light Battery G of the 3rd Artillery Regiment, which was in Washington at that time. After two years of service, he was promoted to lieutenant for his brave and heroic deeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1896, Carroll was promoted to lieutenant colonel, being the commander of the 1st and 6th Cavalry Regiments during the Spanish-American War. His brigade played a decisive role in the Battle of San Juan Hill, the largest battle of the Spanish-American War. The United States finally achieved the long-awaited victory owing to Carroll and his soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carroll&#8217;s leadership in battles of the Spanish-American War was highly praised by his superiors. Despite numerous battle injuries and elderly age, Carroll continued to serve in the army after the end of the war. Henry Carroll received the rank of brigadier general when he was retiring in 1904.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout his military career, he also participated in battles of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Blackburn\u2019s Ford<\/li><li>Charleston Harbor.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, Carroll took part in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>the Apache War<\/li><li>Victorio&#8217;s War<\/li><li>The Ghost Dance War.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Carroll\u2019s military career was fascinating. He displayed bravery and leadership qualities throughout his service. He was highly respected for his devotion to soldiers and put their needs before his own.
