He grew up in a modest family. Despite this, he was a very gifted boy who had academic success and from an early age showed great interest in military history and strategy. All this undoubtedly played a key role in choosing a profession. Thus, when Crawford was 18 years old, he was enrolled in the United States Military Academy. He took an active part in student life and showed high academic performance as it was at school. He was a successful young man who wanted to build a good military career. After five years of training, Crawford joined the US Army Corps of Engineers. He studied here for only two years. Crawford showed a very deep interest in learning, so he also graduated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Cornell University in 1921<\/li><li>the Command and General Staff School in 1929<\/li><li>the Army War College in 1936.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Crawford was very successful in his studies and was recognized as one of the most promising young officers of his generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Participation in the First World War<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Crawford went to the front of World War I in 1917, when he was 26 years old. Then he received the rank of major and was sent with his army unit to France. During this period he served with great courage, earning numerous awards for his bravery and leadership in the difficult battles of the First World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, during World War I, Crawford also performed tasks in the Chemical Warfare Service, commanded the Provisional Battalion of the Gas Regiment and served in the 1st Gas Regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the war, Crawford returned to the United States and continued to perform various duties. Thus, he worked as an engineer in New York, as well as the head of the Engineer Service in Washington. He held other positions in various parts of the United States until the beginning of World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Participation in the Second World War<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Crawford was 48 years old when the Second World War started. He first served his country by working for the Supply and Projects Section at the United States War Department. During this period, he played a crucial role in developing new tactics and strategies that helped shape the modern armed forces. This earned him widespread recognition as one of the most innovative and influential military leaders of his generation. He received the rank of brigadier general for his services in the office in 1941.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the Second World War, he was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>commander of Combat Command A, 8th Armored Division at Camp Polk<\/li><li>commanding general, Service of Supply, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Army_Forces_in_the_Middle_East\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Army Forces in the Middle East<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cairo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cairo, Egypt<\/a><\/li><li>Assistant Chief of Staff for Supply at SHAEF.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After the end of the Second World War, Crawford was awarded the rank of major general. Despite his many achievements, General Crawford always remained humble and faithful to the principles of duty that guided him throughout his military career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crawford was awarded some of the highest military awards for his exploits, courage and heroism during the First and Second World Wars:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Distinguished Service Medal<\/li><li>Medal of Merit<\/li><li>Bronze Star Medal.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Crawford lived a rich life full of courage and heroism.
